Kaisa’s Machine
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Finnish-born jazz bassist, composer, and bandleader Kaisa Mäensivu continues to solidify her reputation as a formidable force in the international jazz circuit.
Known for her "uniquely creative" playing (All About Jazz), Mäensivu blends her Nordic roots with the technical rigor of the contemporary New York scene.
As the founder of Kaisa’s Machine - hailed by The New York Times as a "band of young aces" - she has headlined prestigious global venues including North Sea Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, and The Jazz Gallery. Her musical journey began with classical piano at age six, but a fascination with the double bass soon took hold. “The rhythm and the groove; that's always felt natural to me,” Mäensivu says of her transition to the instrument.
An alumna of the Sibelius Academy and the Manhattan School of Music, Mäensivu’s career is marked by prolific output and critical acclaim. She has released four albums as a leader and contributed to numerous recordings as a side musician, collaborating with icons like Kurt Rosenwinkel and Dave Kikoski. Her work has earned two Finnish Jazz Prize (Emma Award) nominations, the "Rising Star" award at Pori Jazz, and first prize at the International Riga Jazz Stage.
Mäensivu continues to push the boundaries of modern jazz through her imaginative compositions and masterful technique.
